The Transformation of Canadian Landscape Art: Inside and Outside of Being is a landmark, group exhibition of works by contemporary Canadian artists who have, using landscape as their language, explored their experiences and imaginations to create significant works in this genre. Looking at what these Canadian artists have done recently in terms of landscape: what they have perceived, deconstructed, imagined and created, the curators problematize the reigning Chinese vision of Canadian landscape art as national identity derived from early shows in China of works by the Group of Seven. This exhibition will present a diverse, dynamic set of work significantly enriching the Chinese encounter with Canadian contemporary art. Moreover this exhibition is already setting the stage for continued cultural exchange between Canada and China with a number of future projects in consideration. The exhibition was unveiled on August 10 and will remain on view till September 11, 2014.
Artists included represent some of the most influential and decorated artists in Canada today: Michael Snow, Edward Burtynsky, Iain Baxter&, Wanda Koop, JeanFrançois Côté, Andy Patton, Bonnie Devine, Robert Youds, Andrew Wright, Isabelle Hayeur, Ron Benner, Jamelie Hassan, Rebecca Belmore, Ed Pien and Gu Xiong. Curators: Toronto-based, Independent Curators Yan Zhou and Christine Platt and Director of the Xi’an Art Museum Yang Chao.
